Discussion:
1. My first adventure was to use the laser toner approach outlined in the Steam Punk description for electro etching of brass. Although I produced 3 perfect deep etched brass plates, the technique was frustrating as control of the toner transfer process was frustrating. I must have messed up twenty attempts and did not feel in-control of the process.
2. A web search led me to the Green Prints site. These articles helped me understand that the process could be refined and controlled. Based on my findings, I purchased a controlled DC power supply from Velleman and started gathering the various chemicals needed to use the process. I have not actually etched any plates yet.
3. I purchased 250 sheets of the PosJet film in 8.5.X 11 size. My first prints were a disaster as I was printing on the wrong side of the film. The ink would not dry. It is not marked. Their tech-support suggested that you can tell the print side by moistening your finger and touch the film. The correct side will feel sticky. I also switched to all black ink out put by forcing only black in the print dialog. My prints are small so I avoided the dreaded printer wheel smear problem by just placing my graphics on the side of my film not effected by the rollers.
4. I finally located the Puretch product at Cape Fear Press and obtained a short roll. I have not exposed any of this film yet.
I have attached a low resolution jpg picture of my "twiggy tree" art that I will use as my first project.
I will post my actual experiences as I begin and would love to hear any suggestions that will start me higher on the learning curve.
